A great deal has changed in the last hundred and a half years or so, but one thing that has certainly not changed enough is the criminalization of poverty, and the refusal of classist systems of power to act with the knowledge that the vast majority of crime or anti-social behavior is the result of unmet physical or psychological needs, not the result of inborn traits

This idea of encoding (or "discovering") powerful sigils and then tapping into their potency by storing them deep within the mind reminds me a lot of the Caryll Runes found in Bloodborne, a game heavily steeped in Gothic and Lovecraftian occultism. The idea of "vacuity" of mind being a purer form of consciousness which leaves one more open to communion with greater cosmic powers is also explicitly present in the game. Very interesting―I knew little about Spare, so this was quite enlightening. Thank you, as always!

11:37 It's been a while since I've heard "Oregon" pronounced that way haha. It seems more common in the Midwest and possibly the East to put the emphasis on the last syllable like that, pronouncing it like "gone" or "gawn". Lots of people from the state/region (maybe especially in the rural parts) call it "aw-ruh-gn", while perhaps most others say "OR-eg-in", which is sometimes shortened until it basically sounds the same as "organ", with maybe a hint of a sound between the r and the g. It's funny, as far as state names go on paper, "Oregon" seems exceptionally ambiguous as to how you pronounce it―perhaps for that reason, you're liable to be corrected by virtually any Oregonian if you call it "or-e-gawn". Take it from a Pacific Northwest non-Oregonian who's seen that play out many times lol
