My last home was double brick with timber floors as the foundation was webbing only where walls are being bricked up As concrete was exspensive back then it was used sparingly so floor boards was used across the edges with tinber stingers in between House im in now is brick veneer has full concrete slab brick walls on outside with inner timber frame to put insulation doors windows to Then covered with gyprock / dry walling as you know it They are both 70s construction but difference is the soil type they are on first house on sand base so not alot of ground movement so foundation didnt need to be as substantial Where's as the one im in now is on clay so alot more movement hence solid foundation and on.y one outer brick wall for roof trusses to sit on My brother lives in 1900s villa it has blue stone rock foun😢dations about knee high then brick up double brick walled again web foundation with floor board due to costs of concrete My grandparents built there own and back the timber frame with galvanised iron sheets on outside Inside was timber interlocking planks for internal walls Horse hair and plaster for ceilings They are now switching from timber frames to light steel frames but when tied together it very rigid especially when put sidings on makes it even stronger also lighter so foundations dont need to be as strong and moves with ground Also the foundations have changed in design now its a honey come design like in bee hives to handle cracking and movement in the clays soils as only little pieces will crack and move open or shut depending on weather protecting the whole slab floor In Australia we do everything he mentioned cob rammed earth mud even using old car tyres in the rammed eath ones for walls Real earlie 1800s to 1900s where stone home's We also did besser block / cinder block homes i think you call them These block are mainly used for for fences retaining walls sheds Our homes changed over time due to cost which came about through wars As materials was very exspensive and in short demand due to be used to fight the world war's You can date the home's by the materials they're made from even roof trusses Both my two homes where 70s one double brick one single the double brick home had jarrah roof trusses so 60s to early 70s The house now single brick uses Oregon beams and mid to late 70s both tiled roofs early one clay later concrete Both wet area's terroso concrete floors which means mable chips thrown into the serface of concrete then polished and sealed up Like you seen the polished concrete but buy using Mabel chip you can change colours and borders paterns depending on how much money you had The moder build stanard homes now are similar to your stile timber or steel frame if timber they use chip board as strengthening gussets then cement fiber on outside with plaster board on Inside insulation in-between It really comes do to money and what the coucil regulations allow as certain one only allow certain type for conditions ofvarea High winds flooding ect ect All have there strenght and weakness depending on many factors whats type is best to build Homes now are not made to last more then one person life time Unlike mine and my brother his hous has probably seen 3 families out Where's mine im the second and on my deeds the last owners build it The reason for steel framing is to stop white ants eating the structure behind the walls But im not sure stell will be any better as moisture between walls or flood or a leak for any lenth of time rust corrosion i think will become a issue in 50 yrs time yet to been seen But these homes not ment to lasted much longer as roof trusses are pine or now laminated high pressure timbers which means a life span on the timber as glues go off and beams will delaminate in my opinion as same happens in kitchens made by pressed timbers Whats more paying 3x the ammount for them and can't pass down throughout the generations to live in Made houses a commodity just like the auto mobiles has a time frame now then be demolish to build new one so someone gets rich and a waste of resources and materials talking about being green But old homes lasted multiple generations and generations to come better use of resources and greener just like old vechiles to modern day Problems is they preach green but do the opposite like white goods 5yrs all those wasted material Yes you can recycle most of it but uses more energy and pollution to recycle from new products that could last decade's like they used to and homes centuries thats much greener and why old bastard like myself don't swallow the garbage they promote Cal. It life experience and weather same as when i was born even cyclone other day which knew it was going tomfizzle out other then flooding and normal this time of year up there Just like where im from southern part adelaide we've had 6mm of rain since around November and no rain in new year so far We are having another run of heat 36 tomorrow 40,Saturday we just had a heap 42 and night temp 28 But not unusual to happen just all these weather events dont happen all the time but do happen Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
