I remember these as you notice they needed to give them a push to get them of the mark If I remember rite they used to push start them from the pits they'd all be lined up and be running and got pushed by the crews to get them moving as very difficult to take off from stand still Was one of the best area's when still raw and basic operating of race car use clutch and shifter normally on side next to driver arm and slide lever back and forth with a slight move side way to change gears so most of time they drove one handed other than straight or in corner there should be footage around of in board during races drivers where busy in there and had to match engine revs to speed of rear wheels to get gear engine rev to slow lock rear wheels spinning them out to high can't get a gear that's why you hear high revs during gear changes on down shift and at first you couldn't hear grinding of gears on down change because gearbox wasn't up to temperature and had issue getting gear but second time round was fine I remember watching nicky lauder accident by far the best era power and the skills raw and fast Cars today are faster but to engineered like watching slot cars these older ones came down to team and driver skills ever race they'd be trying something new whether good or bad always close racing at the end of races We've been lucky in Australia as we seemed to get almost all types of racing from around the world even Dakar moter bike GP power boats ect cheers mate π¦π¦πΊπ
