From his later years pictures it looks like Mao ate a lot more than his share :-)

Probably too little too late with Chinas GDP almost the same as USA and with wealth comes global influence.
23
I think similar to Russia demographics as a result of bad economic growth.
16
Only countries that take a lot more $$$ then it gives will decide to not be independent like current French Guiana to France.
14
I agree with the first part but 2nd part of people join military to escape poverty it has been the case throughout history all around the world.
13
I am more in favor of society having the option of choosing a true democratic socialist parties/labor party (voters have option of kicking them out) then having trade unions/association (same with business associations) because one looks after a countries labor as a whole while the other only cares about its own members to the detriment of society sometimes.

The older generation that were around probably are mostly deceased a while ago. Also I’m not sure if there were as much involvement by the original Taiwanese people since not sure if they concerned which mainland group (KMT vs CCP) took over.

Biden as the only other Democrat Catholic better watch out

That is well oiled with lobbyists

Enjoyed The Cold War channel but wish that series were continuous (or within a few episodes of other topics) so that I don’t forget what I saw in earlier episodes.
6
Today (also for couple decades before) wars will not stop other spending priorities (regardless how you think of it). Politicians will just borrow more money to do both at the same time.
5
I think it is the smart way to support countries since it shows that there’s enough internal support to justify supporting them.
5
China likes to play the historical victim to the Chinese people in China so they will down play any war which they are the bigger/stronger power unlike the USA which has a large library of us/Vietnam war movies.
5
If Lebanon was one religion then I would say that you need a secular leader but with multiple it’s nearly impossible.
4
Wonder how Ukraine will change economically after the current war if successful
4
It’s only possible because of the US military protection especially since it still lives in a dangerous neighborhood whose governments still actively encourages hatred of it for its actions from WW2 in order to serve their own political goals.
4
In the west many online services are free which makes you the product.

and then India maybe trying the same thing. The later they start the less economic growth there will be since USA and other developed countries will not be as generous or open as in the past as its own economic struggles increase from the lost jobs and skills.
3
Well it helped shift what people impressions of Japan from the war years.
3
Actually less fish was supposedly fished so fish lives were saved :-)

Hard to say psychological people at that time Cuban people might be glad to see USA leave but economically it didn’t improve since bad governments will still be there. If usa companies did not invest then Cuban wealthy would not have done any better job in treating their workers well might have even been more harsh/cruel.
2
Because Russia is still there ruled by a non democratic leader.

Maybe from the availability of natural resources (which is easy to sell worldwide) allow the governments to keep doing as they wish (corruption, nepotism,…) without needing to be friendly with neighboring countries. With natural resources they do not need to let their population develop and still have the fund to maintain a strong army.
2
Economic depression will probably be the cause since nationalism is usually a good distraction from economic pain worldwide.
2
@Histori with nuclear weapons it’s hard to envision it done by force
2
The poorer and rural they are the more they favor strong authoritarian leaders. True for many countries including China and USA.
2
I think JSDF might be a paper tiger since its population is anti military/war so the best and brightest people are not going to the military.
1
@stephencody6088 but with today’s military technology (cruise missile, drones, planes。。。) it might not be as hard as before。
1
China without the great firewall might overwhelm the comment section with China patriotism but the CCP might be countering that with paid posters.

I think it will especially get worse when next generation retired women’s mom or in-law mom is working so no one can take care of the baby/children when the women still working. It will adjust like the west sending babies to day care. Every society goals is to get as much economic performance as possible without regard to longer term consequences (less and less children).

Interesting how Republicans and Democrats changed their way of thinking over a couple decades.

With thousands of nuclear weapons any kinds of land is easier defendable
