Japans 50-70% contribution to US presence may seem high but 3 Billion seems like a bargain.

One of the top reasons I’ve heard why over achieving (and rich) parents for East Asia immigrate to the west is so that their children don’t need to go through the same thing even though they went through the same system and became successful.

But Taiwan is much older and wealthier/educated/urban which might be hinder a resistance in comparison to Ukraine. My parents is from there and many relatives still live there. I wish Taiwan well but there is both positives & negatives in comparison to Ukraine in resistance to war.

If inflation/interest rate don’t come back down then profitability will be very important

“In 2022, about 62% of people who completed high school or earned a GED certificate immediately enrolled in college.” Everything is supply and demand with so many people going to colleges it is not worth as much (if not top school) as decades ago.
74
More likely underemployed since todays unemployment is pretty low
73
Having more universities is not a solution since if too many students go to college the degree will be worth less and less ( like it’s in the USA) so that many low end jobs that doesn’t require a degree 20 years ago now have people with degrees working there. The problem with China and east Asia is family/society expectations that the only way you can have a successful life is by making a lot of money.

Actually I think the Gaokao is the best solution for China because otherwise there will be more suspicions of corruption on which teachers gave which students high grades or good recommendations. Students/parents are already giving gifts now on holidays.
40
Not as different anymore
27
Probably because Japan is paying a large share of the peacekeeping budget.
25
I guess in Norway corporations are not people like in the US.
22
I think that the video is using old data. Government employees last few years has gotten high wage increases. I’ve lived in China for around 10 years and most corruption I’ve seen is when a business wants to get a favor from the government like government contract or to process paperwork faster.
13
Maybe if economy goes into recession next year prices then will come down
11
It probably does not count the house people bought before that period and which they might sell and downsize during retirement.

@John77Doe I heard that China didn’t have much of a navy after the China civil war to invade Taiwan where the retreating KMT army went for its last stand. My Grandfather was a general for the KMT so was able to take his entire family to Taiwan.

Mexico seems to be rising lately partly due to being next to USA so many factories opening there. Therefore I heard less is coming to US to work.
9
@RabbitLLLord am a second generation American with parents from Taiwan/China so I know for better or worse the family pressures of getting good grades even in the USA. Maybe after a few generations of wealth education will be not as important as it is now but has to say since Japan which was first Asian country to become rich still the students is very stressed out.
8
@SqueakScolari69 as the video shows it doesn’t if the person goes into a trade.
7
and I’m the reason why it is not even higher (I don’t go to concerts) 😊

There’s a lot of rare earth in the world just that China is mining it at lowest cost (more pollution is one reason) so if pushed the world can mine it other places.
5
Some do but some don’t
5
It’s the same everywhere people want to live near booming cities. I’m sure there is cheap under $100k houses for sale in the USA in rural areas or depressed cities
4
and large population size which is why China might surpass USA in GDP but won’t surpass it in annual income per person wise.
4
@dairyprods I’m from Los Angeles but parents from Taiwan. Never got a recommendation letter since went to a so so college in Southern California.
4
I think Americans acceptance of legal immigrants is quite favorable just look at the fast rise of income of that group. Many recent immigrant groups (including 2nd generations) have already surpassed the American average income. Any country would have a harder time accepting illegal immigration of a large size regardless of where they are coming from.
4
Most people just care what future employers rank schools since that is the end goal
3
I think the reason many Chinese international students are like this is because it was their parents/relatives that decided for them to go overseas for education not themselves so they are not the personality type to want to meet new people. I’m a ABC so know about both sides
3
Well same thing is happening in the USA. Many empty store fronts even before pandemic and with good economy so cause is e-commerce.
3
Capitalism was good at the beginning for Hong Kong but turned bad once China opened up its market to Hong Kong businesses. Now many of the best and smartest of Hong Kong people go to China to expand their business because of huge market and low labor costs. Hong Kong culture also left to China which is a shame since it was once captured the western worlds #1 international film market.

Hong Kong was left with financial and tourism but now to get back at Hong Kong for not “behaving” China is directing those markets to within China (Shanghai and Hainan).

And yet some people worry that both are in BRICS organization
2
@josue3687 True but also because the older generations still remember abject poverty so they will overlook other problems as long as they are doing better then before. As new generations are born expectations will rise but might take a few generations.
2
Jacob Johnson your right except with using sales as the example since most sales is based heavily on commission and older sales people usually have a much richer/older network of customers.
2
I personally purchase over a thousand dollars a year of gift cards whenever they are on sale for my own personal use
2
I think it works also because much of the population (or their parents) came from even worse political situations.
2
China Real Estate = USA stock market
2
Well most viewers probably from USA
2
Especially since running a offline media company is usually not very profitable (unless you target a niche like financial news) so rich owners will want to use it for their own good.
2
Housing costs like Stock market in the USA might not fall because of higher inflation will mask the depreciation of currency.

When African countries hit economic troubles the dirt poor population will quickly turn against China claiming (rightly or wrongly) that it is exploiting them especially if China greased some politicians hands in order to get deals done.
1
@Fauzanarief-n7i yeah like surely giving us a lot of money doesn’t influence us
1
Don’t know if Fog would be much of a issue since for the landing crafts can be automatically programmed. As for actually fighting it would hinder both sides.
1
Jacob Johnson I’m one of those that can’t keep up in technology :-)

I think more likely a rich india that more people in Kashmir wouldn’t want to separate especially if Pakistan is still dirt poor. Also a rich india would mean a less religious india.
1
Yeah stuck with same situation separated from wife in China because of this.
1
Printing $$$$ does the same thing which every country does.
1
With China closer or even allies again with Russia 🇷🇺 again…US political calculations might change also
1
@DavydLiu yeah because USA allows immigration while China greatly restricts it
1
Good thing Norway didn’t discover the oil before WW2 otherwise would be in NAZI control.
