  48.  @classicallpvault  I agree with your first statement. Christianity has certainly brought some prosperity, but real progress in standards of living only kicked off when industrialization and the scientific revolution started and we tried to understand the world in a rational way instead of by means of religious superstition. I think it’s a bit early to call the current demographic trends a death spiral although I do acknowledge that birth rates become a problem if they continue the way they do. On the other hand, there is also a continuing trend of secularization in evangelical communities. I know several large orthodox-Christian and evangelical families where some or all of its members became secular. I admit it’s a bit coarse to put it this way, and I certainly don’t actively advocate for it, but it seems like there is some stabilization in population numbers with a secular majority with below-replacement birth rates and a religious minority with higher birth rates, with the secular population adding to their numbers by secularization amongst Christian communities, with the preliminary results being roughly an equilibrium. I do agree with you that nihilism serves no good purpose but I vehemently disagree with your assertion that atheism is maladaptive. On the contrary, I’ve been to Barneveld and I’ve seen first hand how the Christian community treats gay and lesbian people. Furthermore, I see a Muslim in the threads with his only contribution uttering that his God is the only way and you yourself are only a few written lines in and are already calling that person a devil worshipper. If these religions are your bright future I want no part in it. Both Christianity and Islam have the same fundamental flaws and from the looks of the Gaza-war orthodox Judaism is no stranger to religious dogma either. A healthy mix of atheism, humanism and rationalism with a tolerance toward liberal religiousness is the only ethical way toward a future without bloodshed. We’ll find a different way to fix our demographic problem.
