  1. What Senator Sanders needs to understand is that Denmark, like many Western European countries, has a highly professional civil service. This civil service is not newly staffed each time a new head of government comes around. On top members of the civil service can hardly be fired by anyone. Hence a substantial part of civil servants have many years, if not decades of experience. An executive branch constructed in this way is set to be very efficient in converting tax money into public services. The USA, lacking a civil service of this quality, is simply unable to achieve the same. Roosevelt's New Deal and similar programs ? While arguably successful, they cannot be compared with the well-oiled civil service system of European countries, which are consistently providing top-notch education opportunities and healthcare for all citizens since many generations, without any extraordinary presidential initiatives.
