  2. That does not add up. It is said that nearly all Afghans are terrified. If so, why did the Taliban not encounter opposition? Some fundamental bits are missing in this puzzle. We never understood Afghanistan. And we still do not understand it.

  4. There are exogenous shocks, mainly the R-U war, for which people do not blame any US politician/party. However Dems are blamed for big spending which also contributes to inflation.

  5.  @dietotaku  If by "fascist" you mean National Socialists, i.e. Nazis of Germany, then you are actually wrong. Hyperinflation was a problem of the early 20s. Mass unemployment of the global Great Depression in the 30s (accompanied by deflation) was the problem. And the Nazis actually fixed it, by massive government spending. Not surprisingly, as they mixed extreme right wind with some left wing ideas.

  8.  @umanshahzad5331  One indeed has to allow the possibility that Afghans in their majority are OK with the Taliban. My suspicion is that Pashtuns generally prefer them and people of the countryside of all ethnicities generally accept the Taliban.
