  1. It is ludicrous to declare Churchill an idiot based on some military mistakes he made (some of which can be sees as such only having the privilege of hindsight). Churchill's main asset was that he correctly assessed the nature of Nazism. That is the main reason he, although a rather unpopular figure, was made PM (and not the most prominent Conservative, Lord Halifax). It was clear that Churchill would not conclude peace, even after France fell. Even though this option would be quite reasonable given that the British Empire for many months was the only power at war with Nazi Germany, which closely cooperated with the Soviet Union. On top Hitler at this stage had no demands towards the British Empire other than accepting German supremacy over continental Europe.

  2. You confuse cause and effect. You think autarky is an autonomous decision and propensity to war its logical conclusion. In reality it was the other way round. Germany craved for autarky because it wanted to be able to conduct war. And then it had to conduct war to secure autarky. That is circular logic, my friend. Worthless. Yet murderous.
