Russians are by and large astonishingly balanced. The vilification of them as savages is so debased. My Polish-Lithuanian ancestors have fought against Russia/the Soviet Union. Yet there was no hate involved. Yes, there is mutual distrust when it comes to the level of politics. NATO expansion has exploited that mistrust and has tainted its original noble mission of protection against communism with the cynic air of greed for Ukrainian farmland. And an older and even more cynical Anglo-Saxon tradition of having them natives fight each other while watching from a safe distance.
