And to think that many of the rioters sincerely thought and still think that they were defending the Constitution... Or does "defending the constitution" mean for them "I want to have it my way" ?

@samuelweir5985 I think that by and large it is not lack of knowledge. Much of what Trump said was symbolic anyway. It is rather the decay of civic discipline, i.e. the readiness to accept that sometimes you are in the minority. Apparently the general American tendency towards a) distrust against established authorities, b) egomania, c) the concept of self-definition by ethnicity, all of which were initiated by the US political left, have now taken root in conservative America.
