  1. If they were smart, they'd realize that the US need for Taiwan is temporary and they would declare their independence clearly, and whatever else they've been holding back on, as to offend China. Once the US doesn't need them anymore, they'll be on their own. Now's the time to start getting something from the US. Perfectly justifiable for Taiwan to use the US just like they're being used.
