Your movie commentary seems less about the movie and more about what OTHER people are saying about the movie. (POSSIBLE SPOILERS.) Yes, the main character is not an anti-hero. That doesn't take away from the messaging of the rest of the movie. The only criticism I feel is warranted is that the ending felt tacked on, but other than that it was an excellent film. The viewer immediately wants to sympathize with a Russian mafia boss (despite all that that entails) because the protagonist is so vile. In this film, it's the character played by Peter Dinklage that is the anti-hero. All the more disappointing when he doesn't wholly succeed in what the viewer wants to see. Also, some of the "plot holes" you point out, aren't plot holes as much as plot armor - clearly the main character needs to survive and establish various qualities for the film to go where the film director wants it to.
