Taiwan needs to do better with its education if large swaths of people still think unification with China wouldn't be anything less than disaster. Mao tried to destroy Chinese language and culture to usher in his Communist utopia, and the CCP is still doing it. The last remaining true store of Chinese language, culture, and know how is Taiwan and they need to let the world know it.

@dcc70 Attempting to maintain the status quo is a sure fire way to lose everything. Taiwan needs to find away to be truly independent and for China to be OK with it. Sooner or later, the CCP will take by force that which isn't offered freely. Just look at Hong Kong. They couldn't even keep their promise to wait.

@dcc70 Take a good look at Ukraine if you think relying on the good graces of the US is something you just want to hope and pray about. Population of 45 Million decimated to under 22 Million, ana entire generation destroyed, and thanks to the depleted uranium and cluster bombs, even when the war comes to an end, people are going to continue dying for generations. And all because they wanted a proxy to fight their enemy (and despite the sacrifices still completely failed). The US doesn't care about Taiwan, they are using it. Use them back by getting what you want now. What is the US going to do? Suddenly decide they don't actually need Taiwanese semiconductors? The US is in the process of trying to gain a kind of self-sufficiency. Once they have that, they don't need Taiwan any more and any protection you have will be gone.
