Noticing it was getting out of hand, he should've helped, not run away. Now, he is forever known as a coward, and rightly so. I hope he's in prison and doesn't get out for another decade.

However, it's in most boys' nature to pull pranks once in a while (think Bart Simpson). 2) You're being moralistic here, putting him down for a prank no worse than what most boys do. 3) I think he was wrong for leaving the scene. He should've watched the results of his prank and as soon as he knew it was safe or not, he could leave or help. It's very rare for a kid to throw a firecracker and it turn into a house fire. Millions of kids around the world have thrown firecrackers to scare others.
