  2. This reminds me that in Japanese we have a term 専門バカ (senmon baka). It refers to a specialist who does stupid things. For example, a doctor spent all of his younger years immersed in studying and nothing else, then continued to be immersed in his or her field. Because they're so sheltered from the rest of life outside of their field, they're pretty stupid about really basic things sometimes. "Senmon" refers to being a specialist, and "baka" means stupid. Also, it's like how George Bush Sr. was once in a photo op at a grocery store and was bewildered by the barcode scanner. That technology had been around for years, but he had no clue about it because he lived in his own world apart from the common person.

"Oh, you killed your parents? Well, they were so strict with you. It's understandable." Also, why are people convicted of murder allowed to be out of jail on bond? What kind of thinking is that? "We think this guy killed his parents, but, hey, if you've got money, he can be free for a while. It's not like he's going to kill again, probably."

Next time you're out in the countryside, seeing those large mansions on huge lots, daydreaming about how nice it would be to escape your life and live like those people, remember that this kind of crap happens all the time in rich, isolated families. Life isn't anywhere as ideal as you may think.

The dad was stupid enough to go along with the plans of living on an isolated island with little preparation at all. They're definitely not going to be very trusting in their relationships.

  18.  @pricklypear7516  I'm pretty sure when you find out that your mom has been cheating on your dad with multiple men and ended up killing your dad, it doesn't matter what age you are. That's going to affect how you think of women. I'm almost positive your thoughts on women will not have been completely filed away. Also, it seems that her behaviour quickly deteriorated. That's good reason to believe that something similar could happen with your own partner or anyone else around you, including yourself.

  20. It does make sense actually, because everything was fine until she broke the trust. She's the one that destroyed the marriage. This often happens. One person in a couple cheats, the other tries to forgive and move on, but it's impossible, and they end up cheating too, because why not? They were betrayed.

  38. Now they'll probably live the rest of their lives in distrust. They had known that boy for years, he had consoled them, he had dated their daughter in high school. Yet, without any good reason, he killed their daughter. I wouldn't trust anyone after that. I'd be angry at myself for not seeing any signs, how gullible I was.

  41. The amount of ignorance by non-pilots is sometimes incredible. After obtaining my commercial pilot licence in Canada (single engine, land), people just assumed I could also legally fly a helicopter. LOL. I feel sorry for the pilots who fly chartered planes full of entitled people like rich pro sports teams or other rich people. They've got all of this knowledge and are just treated like servants, while everyone on board acts like morons. Sometimes they have to take a group somewhere, wait for a couple of days, then take them back.

  42. I think it's more than just a coincidence that people use the term "to go postal" in English. There's something unique to working at the post office in the USA or Canada. In Canada, I don't know how exactly it is now, but for the longest time it was a job in which workers got paid quite a bit of money compared to the easiness of the job. The union is strong because everybody wants their mail. As soon as conditions aren't met, workers can just go on strike. Everybody gets pissed off when their mail isn't delivered, so demand the workers go back. The workers eventually get what they and their union want. I think it gives workers a sense of entitlement. My sister's attitude completely changed once she started a regular job at the post office. She used to be really kind, but after starting work at the post office, she got really macho, vulgar, and entitled. Like this woman, she held grudges. Suddenly everything was our parents' fault, the government's fault, everyone else's fault. I miss my pre-post office sister. We used to be able to talk about our mom, but she made it clear that was not a topic to bring up with her. She'd go into some weird defensive mode. Thankfully she has never shown any violent tendencies and she has become calmer lately, after a new man in her life and quitting the post office. I really do think though that that particular job, at least in Canada and the USA, isn't conducive to good mental health, at least for some people.
