  30. there is one role for chani. she is paul's greatest strength and paul's greatest weakness. if she steps out of that role, the movie will be ruined. i am not cautiously optimistic. there have been signs. the gender/race swap of liet kynes was the first sign. people talking about how chani is going to be the main focus of future sequels is another. then we have zendaya flapping her mouth with ignorance. i feel like this will be just another holliwood crap telling us how we should feel about leftist ideology.

  31. i remember this movie was advertised as the star wars killer. laughable back then. today, it would be accurate. it shows all the sides of humanity; bravery, over the top wackiness, evil, music, art. and the message is, despite all that, humanity deserves to be saved.

  34. you didn't mention at least one other reference which i don't think was ever made into a movie, but i could be wrong: Deathworld by Harry Harrison. out world colonists are on a planet to mine valuable radioactive ore, but the planet's plant and animal wildlife are psionically connected and they are constantly attacking the settlers. while another group of settlers have integrated with the planet ecology and live peacefully.
