  2. James Russell Actually, you don’t know that. You are probably right, but not necessarily. You have no idea of the extenuating circumstances of this mother & child. Even under Trump, a certain number are allowed in. This woman has made the calculation to at least try. And our laws say that is her right. And our obligation to her is at minimum give her petition a fair due process. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

  3. Russian Diplomat You are wrong. Trump WANTS asylum to only count at points of entry, BUT our laws say otherwise. They say it doesn’t matter how you got here or where in America you ask for it. Trump has tried to change this law, but he lacks the executive powers to do so without congress. He has gone to court to bypass congress, but so far has been unsuccessful. Don’t confuse Trump boldly declaring something with him having that authority. Example: transgender ban in military/ erase transgenders by executive order. = nada, not done, needs congress &/or courts Another example, about his empty boasting bravado, look at what the stock market did over the last 2 days. He came out & made misleading statements about China tariffs, the market boomed one day, then crashed the next when they realized that his boast of a tariff deal was grossly premature. Trump lies. He says shit, & thinks his word is imperial decree. It’s not. No president has all of the executive powers he thinks he has.

  5. Michael Howell America is a nation of laws & binding international treaties. It is only a misdemeanor to enter the country illegally. An asylum seeker can petition for asylum no matter how they got here or where they are in America. And all asylum claims are to be given due process. If you want to change our laws, I suggest you start talking to Dems a whole lot nicer. Bipartisanship or buh bye. United we stand, divided you get washed away in the next Blue Wave

  7. James Russell There are numerous asylum seekers every year that come to America for economic reasons, & are given asylum. But it could be political reasons. It could be violence. You have no idea. None of the racist blowhards in these comments know what her dire straits actually are. That’s why her claim needs a judge to give her due process. You can’t skip steps just because her presence is an inconvenience to you. America is only as great as we treat the people who come to us. We have laws. We have international treaties. And they must be abided,... or we are no better than the lawless places these people are fleeing
