  2. first, before islam afghanistan was buddist. second, sunni islam is drastically different from shia islam specifically in vertical authoritarian governance. sunni muslims don't have religious authority. afghanistan will never go through anything similar to iran. the only possible authoritarian government in afghanistan would be a secular army dictatorship like in pakistan, egypt, turkey, etc
