@caractacusbrittania7442 Also happened on the Dniepr! The Soviet government blew the dams to slow down the German advance. And the really big one was the Yellow River which did little to hurt the Japanese but killed almost a million Chinese civilians.

@zfloyd1627 After this offensive fails, the morale of the Ukrainian army is going to be pretty dire. And they'll have burned their reserves so there won't be much less to stop the Russian offensive that will probably start in a couple of weeks. The question is to how far the Russians want to push. It risks widening the war but there's a huge risk for the Russians in allowing a pro-Western regime to remain in Ukraine too.

@josoapification I don't doubt the casualties are very one sided but there are no reliable sources on casualties. We won't know the real answer for decades to come if ever.
