A culture which has evolved near the Arctic Circle has evolved to think ahead carefully and prepare. Closer to the equator, preparation for the future in pre modern times was not essential.

@Maplelust Sure. And NATO bombing passenger trains and a TV tower in Belgrade was totally justified right? And America's invasion of Iraq was provoked because of WMD. And the half million people who died because of it was worth it. And the Russians shelled themselves in Donetsk city over many years and killed hundreds of their own civilians.

@SusCalvin For sure. But if there's a serious war, particularly a nuclear war, it would be smart to keep out of it. There is the assumption that Russia is morally wrong and NATO is morally right. This is naïve. Russia has legitimate grievances and Lithuania has deliberately escalated the situation. Do you really want to go to war with Russia because Lithuania was so arrogant as to blockade Kaliningrad? In any case, suffering millions of causalities in a nuclear war when neutrality was a justifiable alternative is just stupid and irresponsible.

@debcollins8231 I agree... it's a complicated situation, I started off 70% in favour of Ukraine but the more I learn the more I move to Russia's position. Both sides have valid arguments. Best thing is to try to see both sides and stay neutral.

Sweden has even greater wealth inequality than the USA. For example a greater proportion of GDP held by billionaires.
