@Idk_about_anything Russia at the time of the First Chechan war was in chaos. The Russian army wasn't immune from the general collapse of society. There was corruption and there was drunkenness and there was a morale problem. So yeah - some Russians were drunk. The war was a fiasco. Soon afterwards, Putin took power, stopped the rot and set Russia on a path of recovery.
