Ukraine has naval patrol boats in Odessa. The Russians used quite accurate Kalibr missiles to hit them. it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the grain export infrastructure at all. As for investment, it looks now as if Russia has given up on the West altogether. They can already generate all the investment they need internally ie. with their own capital. Like Lavrov says, "we no longer care what you think".

Ukraine and Russia have been in conflict since the Maidan coup. Neither side is blameless and whether you think the Russian invasion was unjustified, it certainly wasn't unprovoked. European countries are arming Ukraine and European weapons are killing Russian soldiers. It was immensely naïve to think that Russia would forgo using its gas supplies to put pressure on European countries. By this winter, European armies are going to be very vulnerable having sent so much equipment, particularly ammunition to Ukraine. European power grids are going to be struggling to keep the lights on let alone keep heavy industry operational. The situation is going to be especially critical in Germany where the government has actually sabotaged themselves by shutting the door to nuclear power. Germany has badly miscalculated in assuming Russia needed German markets more than Germany needs Russian energy. Unless Germany changes course before Russia loses patience, Germany faces deindustrialisation as Russia builds pipelines southward and eastward to Asia.

@Harry_S._ That's very far from certain. If domestic heating can be maintained it'll only be through higher domestic prices and shutting down industrial gas use altogether. Already, fertiliser and aluminium production has been shut off because gas is too expensive.

@SvenGehlen ... and the next Italian government is highly unlikely to have any patience for boats crossing the Med.
