The Russians already do this. They station a couple of Wagner guys on their oil tankers and the Somalis know to keep the hell away from them.

Accusing the Russians of deliberately trying to cause a famine is propaganda - and also slander. If the Russians really wanted to do this, they'd stop their own grain exports.

@benhardsatrio8222 In case you haven't noticed, technology has changed since then. Look at how fairly primitive missiles sunk the Mosvka and have driven the Black Sea fleet out of Sevastopol. The Iranians are more than capable of sinking an aircraft carrier that comes too close. And that's if their new Russian allies didn't give them modern weapons. After all the US armaments for Ukraine, the Russians wouldn't seem to have any reason not to help Iran drive American carriers out of the Middle East in a hot war.

@benhardsatrio8222 You'll get your wish. All the Russians have to do is arm everyone who wants the Americans out and that's a long list. Do you really think the American presence in Syria is sustainable? I'm not suggesting the Americans will leave Israel. But it's going to keep getting harder for the Americans to sustain any influence in the Gulf much less places like Northern Iraq - unless it's through Turkey, a country growing in military power who is loosely allied to America but has its own agenda.

@benhardsatrio8222 The Iranians - much less the Russians - aren't going to use one missile. They're going to use decoys and many at once if they want to sink a high value target like a carrier. If you think any air defence is 100% reliable you haven't been paying attention to the Ukraine war. If you think US air defence is so much better than anything that's been used in Ukraine you're buying propaganda. The USN damn sure knows carrier battle groups are vulnerable. So they're going to keep well away from the Russian coast or the Iranian coast.

@jayshartzer844 Easy to fix, the Russians station mercenaries on their oil tankers and the Somalis know to keep well away. The Russians caught some pirates a few years back and fed them to to the sharks.

Of course, protecting ships from Somali style pirates is easy. It doesn't even take a navy, it just takes a few well trained guys with a heavy machine gun and an anti-tank missile. The real problem is protecting ships from the likes of the people who blew up Nordstream. And the Russian response to that would be to sink Western ships.
