There is a recent video of Shoigu inspecting dozens of brand new T90s and Russia still has thousands of tanks. Obviously they could have put some of these in a parade.

@Scriobh Might be a different video if you only saw a dozen tanks. Dunno some years they have lots of tanks some years they don't. Not sure what the pattern is. Russia blogosphere speculating they would be criticised if they put lots of tanks on display instead of actually using them. Anyway nobody with a brain disputes the Russians have thousands of tanks so the whole discussion is pretty pointless.

Plenty of videos online of young teenagers and guys who look 60 being pulled off the street in places like Odessa and being bundled off to the army. The Russians have paraded prisoners like a 15 year old conscripts and a 60 something year old conscript. Ukraine is now looking at conscripting women. Meanwhile, Russia still only had one mobilisation phase.

Yeah he's just repeating Ukrainian propaganda numbers we know are lies. Actually identified Russian dead in the whole war are around 20k and that includes DPR/LPR who are actually Ukrainian according to Ukrainian logic. The actual Russian army hasn't lost that many at all.

Nah he believes everything the Ukrainian government claims .. when it suits his narrative. Actually identified Russians killed in the entire war - that's around 20k INCLUDING LPR/DPR forces. The high Russian casualties narrative is mainly BS.

@Scriobh I'm not an expert and Wikipedia has been wrong before but according to Wikipedia - "In non-special anniversary years only a T-34/85 medium battle tank carrying the Victory Banner leads the column of tens of military vehicles and equipment" Looks like this whole narrative about only one tank in the parade looks like the typical media horse shit to me. There are more important things going on. The Russians just hit some huge ammo dumps in Western Ukraine in the weekend and now radioactivity across Western Ukraine has jumped almost 50%. Presumably the British depleted uranium ammunition getting vaporized. But instead the media wants to talk about kindergarten BS like how many tanks are in the Moscow parade.

@joythought Sure, Ukraine admits they have a huge armour disadvantage, a huge artillery disadvantage and a huge air force disadvantage and Russia fires many times more artillery than they do but Ukrainian casualties are lower. Riiiiight

@forbaldo1 Yeah I think the Polish government is on that wavelength too. Most of those refugees are not going back I think. Not to a country which was amongst the poorest and most corrupt in Europe even before the war. The debts and destruction from this war are going to make the 1990s look like the good old days. Already Ukraine's population is down to not much more than half of what it was in Soviet times.

@forbaldo1 Agreed, it's going to make Russia's job easier long term if what's left of Western Ukraine has the smallest population possible. There are lots of Ukrainians here in Britain too, they don't always fit in as well as you'd hope, I think the expectation was that they were going to be like the Poles who are a pretty successful immigrant group. But the cultural differences and expectations of the Ukrainians have been .. different.

@d93atomic So you're saying that a "US alliance" composed of as you admit mainly NATO members means NATO has no responsibility or involvement. How ridiculous do you think that looks to the rest of the world? You write "to my knowledge it kept it's territorial and self-determination's integrity". That suggests your knowledge is very limited. Have you never heard of Kosovo? In 1999 NATO attacked Serbia on a humanitarian pretext to detach a pro-NATO province, violating Serbia's territorial integrity then recognised the province as an independent country. Yeltsin warned against this precedent a the time and was ignored. Later, Russia attacks Ukraine to detach some pro-Russian provinces, violating Ukraine's territorial integrity then recognised the provinces as independent country. You can say it's right you can say it's wrong but what you can't say is NATO is a defensive alliances and you can't say Russia is doing anything in Ukraine which NATO didn't do first in Serbia. Or better to say, you can but if you do, you're demonstrating blatant and illogical hypocrisy.

@ChucksSEADnDEAD Serbia was not "genociding" (sic) Bosnia, the Serbian state had nothing to do with what the Bosnian Serbs were doing. The Western media conflated the Serbian state with ethnic Serbs from Bosnia and the left hand of the bell curve like yourself fell for it. The pretext given was "ethnic cleansing" of Kosovan Albanians based on fabricated and exaggerated evidence. By the same logic, Russia could attack Ukraine to prevent Ukraine's war of "genocide" against the Donbas. In neither case was there a UN mandate.

@LizardSpork Not for me to decide whether Russia was justified or not in attacking Ukraine but they had way more justification than NATO''s attack on Serbia. NATO didn't annex Serbia and there's zero evidence Russia wants to annex all of Ukraine. But NATO did seize part of Serbia by force - exactly what you accuse Russia of doing to Ukraine. To this day, there are NATO bases in Kosovo and NATO forces stationed there. I really don't get how you can't see how strong the analogy is. What's more, NATO did this first and at the time Yeltsin warned it was creating a dangerous precedent. Everything Russia did since has been a response to NATO's aggressive expansion. This blatant hypocrisy is why 90% of the rest of the world - China, India, Brazil, Indonesia, Iran, the Arab world, most of Africa - look at the Ukraine war and have sympathy for the Russian position despite that superficially Russia is the aggressor.

@d93atomic You're wrong about important facts which invalidate your arguments. Start with "strong evidence of a mass genocide going on that country" Mass genocide going on in Serbia. What is that "strong evidence".? There is plenty of evidence there was a genocide in Bosnia. There were thousands of people murdered - by all factions, of all factions. We know what happened, who did it, who the victims were. There's nothing comparable in Kosovo, not before NATO bombing commenced. You shouldn't be surprised by this, we had the same kind of media fabrications with both the Iraq wars. Do you remember the media telling us Iraqi soldiers were turning off incubators in a maternity hospital? Where are those WMD the second war was started to destroy? The actual ethnic cleansing was after the war when the NATO sponsored ethnic Kosovans killed, intimidated and expelled almost all the remaining ethnic Serbs. When NATO bombed Serbia, NATO aircraft attacked civilian targets including a television tower, the Chinese embassy and a passenger train. Deliberately targeting a television tower was officially a war crime but NATO dismissed this because it was "broadcasting propaganda". Compare to Ukraine - since the US sponsored (and funded) Maidan coup violently deposed the democratically elected president, Ukrainian nationalists and the SBU murdered hundreds of people including over 50 in the Odessa fire from which nobody was ever prosecuted despite hundreds of witnesses. The SBU abducted, tortured and murdered people. The Ukrainian army has been shelling what it claims are its own people since 2014 including showering Donetsk city with petal mines, mines which have little military utility but main adults and kill children. Ukrainian politicians openly talked about exterminating Russians. Even the Western media was alarmed at genocidal extreme nationalism in Ukraine. If Russia wanted to make a propaganda case for a humanitarian intervention, it had a lot of material to work with.

@LizardSpork The end result is a permanent (ie. more than 20 years) NATO military occupation of part of Serbian sovereign territory. US and other NATO countries now recognise Kosovo as an independent country and Kosovo is on the path to join NATO. You want to argue that's not annexing territory like Russia annexed Crimea but the result is the same. Recognising the seized territory as independent as an intermediate step towards actually annexing it is exactly what Russia did in Ukraine. Russia recognised DPR and LPR as independent but accepted their joining the Russian federation as a result of popular referenda in those territories. The differences are insignificant and immaterial. Yes - hypocrisy is the most appropriate word for people with your position. And everyone outside of the West can see it.

If the democratically elected president and legal government of Ukraine had not been ousted in a violent Western sponsored and funded coup by radical nationalists then Russia would never have retaken Crimea. RETAKEN Crimea because Crimea was Russian before it was given away by a Soviet bureaucrat. As for Kosovo, no the UN did not sanction that war, nor did it sanction the second war on Iraq, that's all NATO countries especially the USA and Tony Blair's Britain just acting like imperial aggressors because they thought they could get away with it. Again you just demonstrate your blatant hypocrisy.
