@dreamdancer8212 First off, the factories and refineries that once polluted have been forced offshore. The EPA evolved from a good idea to an ultra-powerful agency bent on justifying its budget and overreach.

@techguy651 The "average person" only reads the propaganda fed to them. They don't see the economic impact and destruction caused by the ever-tightening requirements forcing American businesses to close and go offshore. We're playing with fire by regulators strangling the agricultural sector to the point where Americans cannot grow enough food to feed themselves.

@MirzaAhmed89 And to justify increasing its budget every year.

@michaelabraham9177 True. Try to think of one thing that you do from when you get up to when you go to sleep that doesn't have a government agency involved.

@redfro4992 When was the last oil refinery built onshore? How many have been shuttered since? How many steel mills have been closed and torn down? The amount of manufacturing that's being moved back is infinitesimal compared to that which has been lost offshore since 1970.

@knotengajin7359 The city of Pittsburgh owes its existence to the locks, dams, and the Youghiogheny Reservoir. In the wake of the 1936 flood, the government determined that without Pittsburgh the country would lose the upcoming war.

@enginerdy According to a Google search, well over $1B of military needs was imported. Google also agrees with domestic oil production. There hasn't been a refinery built in the US since 1977. Oil is shipped to offshore refineries and finished products are returned. I agree about the labor/money part but only to a point. It's ignoring reality to think that environmental compliance costs aren't a major factor in the decision to go offshore. One example will suffice: U.S. Steel invested millions into Clairton Works to comply with the new regulations. They were in compliance for one month before being cited for non-compliance. When they asked the EPA how this could be, the EPA replied that the rules had been changed.

@selfloveisthekey They tell us that Pittsburgh has the worst air and water in the world...
2
@KuariThunderclaw So, it comes down to choice. You can have an economy that employs reasonable regulations and has the ability to produce the materials required by the military or...you can completely throttle all economic activity in pursuit of the impossible dream, a pre-Industrial Revolution environment, and hope that your enemies will appreciate the effort and not attack you.

@enginerdy Perhaps in your mind it is, but not in mine. How much of what our military needs must be imported, usually from China? How much oil must be imported? How much refined product like diesel and jet fuel comes from offshore refineries?

@REL602 Please feel free to explain yourself. This isn't Western Union; they don't charge by the word here.

@dreamdancer8212 How much is good enough? Despite the losses of ALL of the coal plants and steel mills the Pittsburgh area is still being promoted as "hell with the lid off" by various groups and politicians.

Thanks to the efforts of the EPA: The United States can no longer produce the many things that our military needs. Overregulation has forced the military to source imports while domestic factories have been shuttered. The United States can no longer produce the petroleum and fossil fuels that our nation needs to defend itself The United States can no longer refine the petroleum into the fuels and lubricants that our nation needs to defend itself. But hey, at least the Cuyahoga River hasn't caught fire in over 50 years. Our Chinese overlords will appreciate it.

Crypto Inteligence Agency And that's why, for over 52 consecutive years, the Number One lie is still "I'm from the Federal Government and I'm here to help you."

The EPA lost in court yesterday, but just like the other loss on regulation of carbon, they just carry on as though they are immune from the SCOTUS rulings.

@phillipgabriel8026 I used to think that South Carolina and Florida were humid, until I had to work in Old Ocean!
