That's how you survive on a motorcycle...plan for the worst and be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't happen.

And it's only going to get worse with the lowering of standards in the United States.

@circesoul2218 , 18 is just fine. You're at your physical best at that age...great vision and reflexes. I knew guys who graduated high school and went right out on the highway. Speaking from experience, I'd rather be out there with 18 year olds instead of 65 year olds, especially at night, especially in the rain.

There was an accident here in Pittsburgh from one of those years ago. Duquesne Light has many underground lines and vaults throughout the city and every so often water and big electricity get together with explosive results. A woman was killed while driving on West Carson street when a manhole cover was blown upward high enough to clear the hood and she drove into it. Gives a meaning to "it's your time".

@carabiner7999 , you have to read the postings and videos from a Dragon photographer called Killboy. He's seen and filmed it all. I've passed by the scene of many an accident where the truck driver was pointing at the dashboard saying "GPS! GPS!" Yes, the GPS told you to drive under an overpass with multiple signs saying "Low Clearance! 10'9"."

@carabiner7999 , I've never used Waze, and my days of surviving the roadway rat circus are over. One summer evening I followed a Canadian trucker and watched him contact a 10'9" bridge at walking speed. Until recently, a bridge belonging to the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad straddled Bates Street where it intersected Second Avenue. That bridge had been there for decades, but thanks to GPS, truckers had damaged the bridge severely enough that it required replacement. CSX had abandoned the line and it had been converted into a bike trail so the city replaced the bridge with one conforming to modern conditions. Now the drivers looking to follow PA Route 885 from Oakland to Clairton have no low bridges.

@carabiner7999 Swift drivers seem to end up in Tail of the Dragon videos a lot. When on camera they seem to have a limited command of the English language.

@s.hooper4683 Today, yes, but 50 years ago there were no "commercial driver's licenses" and here in Pennsylvania you could pass your test in a VW Bug and hop right into a big rig.

@s.hooper4683 That's how it was 50 years ago. Not today.
