@atron4736 Remember the "good old days" when Sony's Betamax ruled the home video recording world? Then along came VHS. Then along came DVDs. That was consumer preference in a free market at work. Analog TV was just fine until after 9-11 happened. All the government cried about was how the first responders in New York couldn't communicate with one another, and that they needed the frequencies used by analog TV. This totally ignored the last stark reality that thanks to the shortsighted decisions made by New York all of the city's communication equipment was now in the wreckage of the World Trade Centers. So... people all around the country were forced to throw away their perfectly good TV sets and buy HDTVs. Most of the frequencies never made it to the first responders; the government made a ton of money auctioning them off to the cell phone companies.

@leewinter28 How much money have you spent on tires and electricity? If you have home wind and solar, please tell us how much it costs. The only thing free of charge is a dead battery...

You can go online and look at the real-time stats for SERC, MISO, PJM, NYISO, and NEISO. All of the grid operators have played the "we'll shutter capacity and buy power from someone else because the consumers don't want to pay for the capacity" game. It has worked well until everyone ran out of spare capacity.

Since the recent cold snap, there have been numerous videos about what happens to EVs in the cold, under real-world conditions, and every one of them has been savaged by the EV fanboys.

They will fail due to the same thing that killed Westinghouse and GE, among others: inadequate field tech support. A lot of companies made really great products but failed to support them adequately and the consumers went elsewhere.

@TraditionalAnglican Interoperability is a good thing. Having proprietary charging systems is how Apple works and why I will never use an iAnything.

@S2kDude36 Just wait until the government forces Tesla to change their chargers to accommodate non-Tesla vehicles. It will come as a result of a lawsuit filed by a disabled driver who was left stranded because the only way to charge their car was incompatible with it. The Americans With Disabilities Act can move mountains.

@droiduser1984 The EV fanboys have been busy savaging this guy, calling him everything from a shill for Big Oil to a bald-faced liar who manufactured a nothing burger.

@babybirdhome You apparently know little about how project engineers work. It goes like this: The goal of the project is to make electric car charging more available. Once the land is acquired then the needs are assessed...how many chargers are we installing? What are their power requirements? What National Electric Codes and state/ local codes must be followed? What local permits must be obtained? Environmental impact statement? Once all of the details are completed the real work begins...pouring of concrete pads, routing and burial of electrical conduits, pulling of wire. Then one day a truck pulls up and the crew offloads the boxes with the chargers. The lead engineer reads the instructions and shows the mechanics how to install the chargers and shows the electricians how to connect the wiring. After that's done the stations are tested and if acceptable the project is complete. What happens after that is not the responsibility of the people who designed and built it. It's the responsibility of the company that built the charging stations. Here's a hint: they come from offshore.

@babybirdhome You really should quit while you're ahead.

@hcox1111 The only car babybirdhome has driven was in a video game.

@JE-zl6uy So, you believe that having to pay a subscription fee to access things that you have already bought and paid for is somehow normal? Here's a thought.. I paid for it, and I am going to use it.

@justintyme2451 How many chargers do you see at your local convenience stores/gas stations? If it was remotely profitable Sheetz, Wawa, Love's, Pilot, etc. would be all over it.
1
@justintyme2451 Except that those places didn't exist in 1910, yet gasoline, oils and greases we're readily available. Allow me to digress... In the movie BTTF3, Doc Brown laments that there will not be a gas station in Hill Valley until 1915. But he isn't thinking rationally. Standard Oil was in business in 1885. All Doc had to do was to send a letter describing what he needed to John Rockefeller and wait for the drum of gasoline to come in on the train.

@JE-zl6uy I completely agree with you.

@craigchatterton4164 Update: Hertz announced that it plans to sell off 20,000 electric cars due to high maintenance costs.
