@ElectronikHeart I can't see how a fast solvent like acetone will help. A penetrating oil will break down the rust (piston rings and cylinder walls) and oxidation (hypereutectic alloy pistons).

@truracer20 Somebody, everybody, anybody, nobody. Somebody was supposed to check it Everybody could have checked it. Anybody could have checked it. Nobody checked it. It failed. Maintenance replaced it.

When I worked at Cheswick Power Station I was an Electrical and Instrument tech. One day the control room asked me to go to the screenhouse because the river level transmitter was offscale low. I tracked the problem to the air compressor, which was running but not compressing any air. The crankshaft had snapped due to no oil. The operators were supposed to check the oil level but one of them rotated the low oil level shutoff switch to make it run when the oil level was too low.

Westinghouse leased me one of these as a company service truck. 2.9, automatic, 4x4. It was a great little truck. I have a picture of the day I turned it in with a little over 100K miles on it. Let me know when you find a 1988 Caravan with the woodgrain siding.
