  13. They said the exact same thing about nuclear fission 70 years ago. On its face, nuclear fusion is soooo easy! The power of the sun in the palm of my hand! Hmmm, where have we heard THAT one before? At the heart of every known fusion reaction that we know of is a gravity well. Gravity causes atoms to fuse together creating larger atoms that march their way up the periodic table of elements. Once sufficient mass is reached the reaction becomes self-sustaining. Sound vaguely familiar? Scientists don't know what the magic mass number is. The bottom line is that they're trying to create a star on Earth so that water can be boiled to drive a turbine. If this experiment goes awry the results will be far, FAR worse than ANYTHING fossil fuels might do. But, good luck with it.

  18.  @PhysiKarlz  Three words: prove me wrong. By the way, I forgot to mention all of the hard radiation that stars emit as a consequence of the fusion reaction. Our magnetic field and atmosphere provide protection for us here on Earth. One more thing...with all of this puffery one might think that humanity has somehow "mastered" fusion. We haven't "mastered" fire; people still lose their lives to fires. Tread carefully in the darkness.
