Respect for the law starts at the top. Since the current Executive Branch is ignoring the rulings of the Judicial Branch, that makes the Executive illegitimate and the states can ignore it if they deem it to be in the best interest of the citizens of their states.

The boat completely plowed the bridge pier. There's no way to keep the bridge up minus the pier.

I've read that the workers were in the trucks taking a break when it happened.
4
@itsLeoReaction I guess that the bridge doesn't have a warning system, like loud horns, or a procedure for contacting the contractors on site directly, like a two-way radio. Coulda, shoulda, woulda...

@Dash_1318 People forget that Newton's laws of motion are in play here. Mass and momentum, for starters.

Louisiana has a few to spare.

@ktkt1825 Seen on a bumper sticker in Rapid City: "Ask a Native American about open borders!"
2
@ktkt1825 I believe that you may have missed the point, that being if you don't control your borders and who enters your country you will lose your country. The political ramifications of human migration are irrelevant when viewed in archaeological terms. There were humans here for a very long time before we got here, and the "indigenous people" violently displaced those who were here before them.

@Look_What_You_DidBut it's been used as justification for any number of illegal acts.

@rdean150 To litigate a lawsuit you must have standing. Unless you can prove physical harm or financial loss you don't have standing. This rationale was used to dismiss most of the election lawsuits, including the one Texas and 17 other states filed.
1
@gneissnicebaby I foresee armies of lawyers billing many, many hours here. Texas can prove physical harm AND financial loss, the feds cannot. Trespassing, as you say, to prevent physical harm AND financial loss becomes incidental because the government must provide proof of physical harm or financial loss due to Texas's actions.

@pitepaltproductions8933 Apparently the bridge people had no way to directly contact the contractor. I've read that they were in the trucks on break when the ship hit.
1
If you (the "plaintiff") can prove physical injury or financial loss due to the DOJs (the "defendant") actions then you have standing. If not, suck wind like everyone who contested the 2020 election.

A new bridge with bike lanes and train tracks, maybe?
1
@itsLeoReaction At least they have bridge workers there at night and they were monitoring 156.800 and heard the distress call directly instead of the coast guard having to relay the message.

There was a well-known, long established procedure for LEGAL immigration. Ignoring it, despite your high-minded bloviating, is still violating the law. Thanks to the unimpeded flow of illegal immigrants, diseases like malaria, tuberculosis, and polio are making a comeback. The rules are there to protect everyone.

As we learned in the aftermath of the 2020 election, in order to have "Standing" for a lawsuit plaintiff must prove physical injury or financial loss. Since the DOJ can prove neither their case must be summarily dismissed for lack of standing.
