  1. It is also ironic how the EU decided to ban salt, under the false pretense that it caused coronary disease. Yes, it causes hypertension, but it is not the root cause of coronary disease. In fact, the mediterranean diet requires salt for a good reason: to avoid dehydration by promoting water retention. Also, many people in southern Europe are lean. Perhaps, the EU Commision should be less allowing of beer or strudel sauce, but, of course, Germany and other nordic countries would never allow it, despite the rampant obesity there.
