  1. Of course they are designed for discomfort. The whole purpose of them is to allow pedestrians a brief rest stop as they continue along their path. It is unfortunate though, regarding the homeless and their ongoing crises. I was homeless myself for some time and definitely know to stay away from benches. LOL I used to sleep in this place called freeway park near a large public Fountain and it was pretty well hidden. Comfy too, for being all brutalist concrete. Gotta innovate out there. For the non neurotypical and those with other disorders, surviving the streets is definitely not a cakewalk.
