  2. It's actually accurate. A lit cigarette wont ignite a puddle of gasoline. Normally, it will just put he cigarette out. Same is likely true of shooting at it.

  5. David Cronenberg did that with Existenz, which also came out in 1999. But more of what you're thinking about is probably Welt am Draht by Fassbinder in 1973. You can find it for free on youtube or elsewhere. It was remade into the 13th Floor around 2000, which flopped.

  13. I still don't know how the make it realistically look like those cars are being shot to pieces. It would be easy to do by just using live rounds from the mini-gun, but you'd end up with dead actors.

  20. I enjoyed the movie. But this is one of the most ridiculous premises. You'd get no more electricity from a human body than a potato battery. Most of the energy from the food we eat goes to keeping us alive, i.e. most of the energy from food could not be harvested.

This was stupid when you think about it The disaster happened, not because of the advances in AI, but because the military put that AI in charge of defense systems such as ICBMs. It's the latter that is insane. That's like hooking all of the missiles to an internet launch system. No one in their right mind would put missile launch capability in the hands of AI, of any kind.

In Predator, the shots with Blaine's mini gun were shot with the cord hidden down Jesse Ventura's pant leg in plugged into a power source. Also, the rate of fire was slowed down, so he wouldn't get blown over.

  37. This movie lost me with the driverless cars. Even if you can hack a car's computer, it doesn't work that way. There's no mechanism in a car for automated steering, throttle and breaking.

  38.  @charliemartin2157  They have a procedures, with codes that have to be confirmed by the president, and the military people at the launch facilities. And with keys that have to be turned by two men simultaneously (to prevent a single crazy person from launching).

  39. A plot hole in the franchise is that nobody in their right mind would connect ICBMs to a computer network, let alone connect them to AI. Networks can be hacked. That's why the missiles have operators who need to turn the key.
