People have been remarking that this is perfectly parallel to Stalin's treatment of the Kulaks, bourgeoisie farmers, who resisted Stalins collectivization.

Paul Krugman is an amazing phenomenon and a puzzle himself, in that someone that dense is paid millions for his opinions. He is literally wrong about everything.

All of this makes me think that there is an inversion of the left-right paradigm. It started in the French Revolution, where those supportive of the old kind sat on the right side of the assembly, while those not supportive sat on the left. On MSNBC they're constantly defending the security state, authoritarian regime policies, and acting pissed that people would question Democrat propaganda. You question people at a Trump rally and they are skeptical of authority, highly mistrustful of the bureaucratic state and ruling class.

@michaelmcclure3383 It makes no sense from a strategic point of view. They're demonizing a demographic which is mostly conservative, Republican and Trump supporting. But Clinton's inability to conceal her contempt for rural people cost her the election in 2016. The Democrats have taken the urban contempt of rural, conservative, and Christian people to a fascistic intensity. Notice that Trump never maligns any voter group. He's always just ridiculing politicians and media personalities.
