Waiters just make minimum wage in America. But they make a good wage after tips. It's amazing how petty the "empathetic" "party of the working man" can be.

The system is kind of strange in the US. In most countries waiters are just paid a normal salary, and tips are very little, or never. It's similar with taxis.

@Jokerfaic It's much easier to not report it. I got paid a significant sum in Japan once. I put it on my 1040 to keep everything legal, and the IRS took it out, because there was no W-2 or anything.

@KingcoleIIV At least in America, jobs like that are always just meant as temporary. Waiting is a good way to get money, quickly, but is not something you want to do long term.

That sounds more like ALS than MS. MS usually only causes symptoms in certain regions.

@KingcoleIIV Small businesses are always such cheapskates; because they operate on such thin margins, and the federal and local governments all want their cut. The one time I worked in a restaurant, they had one of those glass French press coffee pots. It was broken but was held together with tape.

@dovely9279 You should definitely quit a waiter job if you don't make significant tips. 30 years ago, it would be about $15/hour. Because there are jobs where you just sit on your ass that pay minimum wage.

@russiannpcbot6408 Small businesses, such as restaurants, pass any expenses to the employees with shorter hours. Tax liability almost always goes up with higher gross income.

@dovely9279 Some states have a lower minimum wage for servers. Some just have a single minimum wage. If you were only making minimum wage waiting tables, you would quit anyways, because it's exhausting.

They're going after businesses much more aggressively, who pass it on to customers. The left always idolizes Europe, which is actually ahead of them in that they have figured out that you can't tax the shit our of businesses. So in European countries they tax the hell out of individuals, with regressive tax rates.

@TheDrizzle404 It also explains why blacks in NYC were complaining that taxis wouldn't stop for them. They're notoriously bad tippers. So the driver will pick up the white person and make an extra $5.

@settame1 I suppose you get Continental service. When I go to real restaurants, not a buffet, in the US, I always give close to 20%. Because if I cared about not spending much, I wouldn't go to a real restaurant.

@egobrain6826 Then they should quit. Because it's much harder work than other menial jobs, such as retail or pumping gas.
