I've noticed that they think that he pulled off a successful lie. What I mean is that they think he was correct in "that was not gain of function" as considered by the experts. It's a technique of lying used frequently by "fact checkers". He's using the definition of "gain of function" as modifying a human pathogen, when the paper was about modifying an animal pathogen to make it more infectious. But nobody questioning him cares about that detail.

@Kdot Fauci was already a top government bureaucrat working in the field. The president has to go on advisor recommendations. Later it's politically difficult to fire bad bureaucrats. Recall the meltdown after Trump fired Comey, who was genuinely awful.

It's something that has always bugged me. The "fact checkers" always do this. When they want something to be false to fit their political narrative, they will add a detail irrelevant detail that wasn't in the debate which is false. The problem with professional liars, is that they try to make it complicated, to hide. But it's really simple. The liar is intending to deceive, while the honest person intends to communicate. But it's not hard to spot the various techniques.

What is it with corporate Democrats and their brethren on the left (eq. TYT and actually most leftists), with these insultingly obvious lies? What Fauci did is exactly the same as say you're on probation for DUI and went to a new years party, then the judge asks you if you drank champaign and you answer "no". And you insist that you're being truthful because "It's only Champaign if it's from that region in France, otherwise it's not Champaign."
