Aircraft engines don't typically have high compression ratios. They generally have low compression ratios, and run at much lower RPM. The latter is because the prop cannot turn so rapidly that the blades exceed the speed of sound. So you can either have the engine designed to run slower or use a gearing. A relatives airplane runs at just 2700 rpm. I don't know why aircraft piston engines are required to use 100 octane fuels when the compression is only 6.5 - 8.5. Also the turbo charging typically only keeps the engine intake at 1 atm sea level pressure. My best guess is that reliability is much more crucial for planes, because engine failure == crash.
