  3. A lot of the hate is cultural jealously. Not toward the monarchy. But the UK is historically more civilized and developed than other countries. It's the only country with democratic traditions going back to the middle ages. Continental Europe have all been dictatorships, and the legal code of France, borrowed by many countries, was established by a military dictator. You get this if you're American, from France more than anywhere. You get this brooding contempt because there are things about your country that they're insecure about.
