The UK doesn't have a lot of the racial history the US has. During WW2 the US still had a segregated military (integrated in 1948). And soldiers noticed the bars and hangout spots on London were not. Though, in the Normandy invasion, being in the back wasn't so bad.

@mischelle9530 I suppose they can, because the Axis didn't win. The US had separate white and black platoons. But they were working under the same officers.

@mischelle9530 Pre-1965 SE US states had separate public schools, restaurant seating, movie theater seating and bus seating for blacks and whites. It's up to you, if you want to call it free, or not free. But it was ended, and the military was integrated in 1948.

@mischelle9530 It wasn't that the blacks built their won theaters and schools. They did, but the states in the South had laws that required segregation. Theaters would have signs that said "whites" and "colored". It wasn't voluntary segregation, which happens everywhere. Currently there are no laws that say "gays only" at a bar, but it's still pretty much separate gay and straight bars. But this was ended in about 1965. And it was only in the SE.
