I'm wondering how Garland can get away with such extreme conflict of interest. He's investigating and raided the main opposition candidate of his boss. I would have thought you'd get disbarred for doing something like this.

@PPISAFETY I would figure that at a local level a DA would need to recuse himself, if there were personal interests involved. I would also expect that in law school one would take an ethics course on such issues. Garland seems either really arrogant or a doofus.

@delaineymacphearson6850 Mitch McConnell. Trump was just a candidate in 2016.

@delaineymacphearson6850 Trump is still the most powerful influencer in the GOP. Consider what happened to Cheney. The Jan 6 committee is not working -- few people care. So they're desperate to smear Trump. But this Trump raid is backfiring, because it's too obvious a political maneuver.

@KenGalan See Tom Crowford's comment below. I mind you that the Attorney general didn't investigate Clinton. It was given to Comey whether to decide to indict. Comey's answer to your (snippy) question "DOJ is not allowed to investigate people accused of wrong doing if they oppose 'your boss'. " was "yes". But unlike that case, the Garland sought out this case. The DOJ doesn't even know what they're looking for. It's Russiagate 2.0. They told the judge today, "the investigation is at it's beginning". This is obviously a political hit and fishing expedition. And that makes you wonder why Garland would wreck his career over this. I'm sure Comey didn't want to chose whether to indict Clinton. But Garland chose to compromise himself.

@farmerjohn6526 That's the thing. Everybody knows this is just politics. Which is grossly inappropriate. I expect Garland to be the loser. Their leaks are comical. "Nuclear secrets"? That was obviously to rile up dummies in leftist media. The WH doesn't keep technical military secrets. Those would be in government laboratories.

@farmerjohn6526 "1) If they were officially classified documents- then why are they now looking for them 2 years later" There's a major hole in that pretext. Trump, until Jan 20, 2021, had universal authority to declassify. So of course, as any president would do, he declared all the documents he was taken declassified. I'm hearing constantly on Dem/leftist (it's weird that the left all of a sudden respect the FBI and security state, but they've never been smart) that Trump couldn't do that. But he could. The Supreme Court has ruled that the president can declassify anything, by just saying it is. How could they make a criminal case over Trump having declassified documents?

Obviously a departing president will declassify all the documents he is taking. He can do it just by decree. So what are they going to find? Most likely, they're looking for documents they want locked up, so the public can't see them.
