Sam Harris is only right in the sense that the left is more angry because Trump is president. In particular, the identitarian left is really angry. For the anti-war left, Trump is a better presidency than Obama or Clinton. What's really offensive, is that leftwing progressives run Minneapolis. It was their incompetence. If these protests/riots have a point then it's a repudiation of the left-wing Democrat governance of American cities. The whole orgy of destruction is progressives deflecting from their incompetence.

"Identity politics is dead." He's right about this ridiculous obsession with identity groups and grievances. But also, Kamala Harris was a terrible candidate, who is completely unable to intelligently address the important issues. Whenever she was given a serious policy question she would just run out the clock with a word salad. They nominated a candidate who made Trump looks like a savant.

The anti-Trump crowd grossly overestimated how much Americans care about January 6, 2021. Politically it was a wash, as about half the public is aware how it was dishonestly politicized. (Yhe Democrats spread lies about the death of Siknick, there are videos of police letting people in, and other videos of people being arrested and then let go behind the security (obvious instigators), and the video of the police firing plastic bullets and flashbangs in the crowd, injuring several and leading to the deaths of 4 protesters.)

@bojnebojnebojne "Climate change" is used promote many political grifts, eg. taxes, counterproductive technologies such as electric vehicles, and scams such as carbon capture. The only thing I know of that can actually make a difference is switching to nuclear power. We've already largely switched from coal to natural gas, which has half the carbon emissions. Wind and solar aren't stable, so can't be used as the basis of a power system. Otherwise, we just have to adapt to a changing environment. We're very good at that. Deaths from hurricanes have gone down drastically, because of improved buildings and transportation.

What I don't get is that Trump was one of the better recent presidents. The Biden presidency consists of BIden causing serious problems, then backfilling the problems he created, and then arrogantly taking credit for the problem improving slightly. Chomsky's view is self-refuting. His position is that US foreign policy is brutal and cruel, so there's no reason to care about murderous extremists. The conclusion doesn't follow from his premise. In fact, Chomsky has been accused several times of genocide denial. He has minimized the Bosnian genocide and the Rwandan, and the Cambodian. His his response to this was always this cranky obstinate "F-U...what the USA did was worse." He even considered Clinton's cruse missile attack on the Afghanistan camps to be a war crime, when it was a response to al Qaeda blowing up two embassies killing hundreds.

Statements like that are why I stopped following Sam Harris. It wasn't even the most shocking thing to happen in the previous 6 months. There were riots all over the country with buildings set on fire and people killed (with the support of the Democrats). Holy shit, just this statement by Sam Harris is more shocking than Jan 6 : “Osama bin Laden is far less reprehensible personally to me than Trump.” And like every deluded person, he has to make a Hitler comparison (and a really really bad one): “The things that make Hitler worse [than Trump] are actually virtues. I mean like courage and a commitment to something beyond yourself.” Let's ignore that Trump is not a mass murderer.

@pablowall The Democrats contested the 2016 election (for 4 long years). The difference is that the Republicans aren't such emotionally unhinged cunts to compare that with terrorism. In a functioning democracy people are entitled to oppose the certification of a vote. It's not like Iran or Russia, where you have to accept the result whether or not it was crooked.

" Trump's peace agreement made it clear repeatedly that the US does not recognize the Taliban as a legitimate government. Biden who is recognizing the authority of the Taliban, and he's trusting Kabul security to the Taliban. Biden gave a list of American's and Afghans working with the Americans to the Taliban. Trump would have respected the advice of good military leaders, would have not left Americans behind, would have not left arms behind to the Taliban, would have bombed Baghram airbase so the Taliban couldn't use it, and would have bombed the Taliban before they could take Kabul. Those are things any competent leader would do.

The PA Supreme Court just recently ruled that the state's election rule changes (changing to mass mail-in ballots) was unconstitutional. That's basically what happened in 2020. The states changed the voting rules in an illegal unconstitutional manner. The Constitution gave the state legislatures the authority over election procedures.

They collapsed because Biden cut off support cold turkey. They were trained in American fighting tactics, infantry calls in air strikes. And they no longer had help repairing equipment (again Biden cut them off). Where are they going to find a mechanic to repair an Apache helicopter? The Biden presidency is a gross act of negligence. There was an actual siege on the Federal courthouse, arson, fireworks, green lasers to blind, even IEDs. The local and state Democrat governments basically supported it. The local politicians wanted to get Trump to send in federal cops to protect the building so they could cry "Nazi!!!!". Just STFU about 1/6.

The vaxes have actually turned out to be a failure in curbing the pandemic and the death rates. There's 60% vaccination in the 1st world, and the death rate didn't drop. It's a recent disease so there's naturally a lot of disagreement. What's unusual is the extreme degree to which it's being politicized, especially by the Democrats. For example, the vaccines are only partially effective, do not stop the spread, but leftists are full on blaming unvaccinated for killing people.

@kayakMike1000 The only meaningful policy changed would be moving the power grids from fossil fuels to nuclear. But that still wouldn't have a significant impact, as the US is only a small fraction of emissions. Currently, natural gas is a basis for many power grids, eg. CA. Switch to nuclear, and natural gas can be saved for heating, and cars.

@Thisisahandle701 It was a peaceful transfer of power. It wasn't like 2016-2017 where the administration in power was spying on the incoming one, with wiretapped phone conversations collected. And then later used in the Russia hoax. Sam Harris used to be someone I could rely on for intelligent analysis. Almost on par with Hitchens or Glenn Greenwald (today, he was rather regressive in the past). But now he's just kind of a political hack, repeating Media matters hackery.

@Thisisahandle701 People are legally entitled to contest an election result. In 2016 there were many people who didn't accept the outcome. There were calls for electors to go faithless. There were people in the House to protested the certification. That wasn't a crime, and neither was the Trump people contesting 2020. The actual crimes were what they were doing behind the scenes in 2016-17. Obama's people were wiretapping the incoming administration. Then they started the fake Russia hoax, based on Russian disinformation. People are being investigated right now. The actual indictments are just going to be lying to the FBI. But I'm not taking any hyperbolic hypocritical BS from a party that uses the FBI to spy on political opponents, defends a year of violent rioting with buildings burned down. And then cries about a capitol riot for over a year.

The source of the Steele Dossier has been indicted and arrested, Igor Danchenko. That makes it much worse that we have factions of the government behind the the Russia Hoax. They were Clinton supporters in the government who wanted Trump removed. That's how hypocritical this is. That was an actual plot by the intelligence to remove the president with a manufactured fake scandal. A coup isn't a bunch of yahoos rushing into the capitol. It takes people with political power. The origin of the Alpha Bank fake scandal is now getting investigated. If they intentionally lied to the FBI then it was a crime.

You'd think he could be man enough to admit that Trump did some good things, eg the destruction of ISIS (the Islamic terrorism in Europe, US, and Turkey then mostly stopped), and the Abraham Accords.
