Just from the Wackowskis' comments on twitter, politicizing the "red pilled" concept, claiming it's "about being trans", we know Matrix 4 will suck. Being trans has nothing to do with waking up to reality from being imprisoned in an oppressive dream world. It fact, it''s the opposite. It's waking up from reality into a liberating dream world.

The original was actually going to have the character Switch be a man in the real world and a woman in the matrix. Which would add to the theme that if your philosophy was living a happy life, the matrix could be better than the real world. But it would undermine the whole movie to make "the matrix is a liberator" its conclusion.

@ithurtsbecauseitstrue With rare exceptions, these sequels are just cash grabs. Sequels 2 and 3 were. By the 3rd movie everything devolved into mechs shooting at mechanical squids with machine guns. WTF?

That would trivialize all that happened in the first movie. It would be a major cop out. The easy way out of consequences of a plot is always to just make every thing that happened a dream.
