The French really resent that WW2 for the Americans is viewed as an era of heroism, similar to the Trojan war in ancient times.

@calguy3838 US industry was supplying the USSR. The Europeans of course consider it unfair that our role was as a supplier of arms from 1939-1941 rather than fighting and dying, but that's the way it goes.

@blrbrazil1718 Napoleon is a weird thing to be proud of. I'm actually proud that my country was NEVER a dictatorship. It's also what Hitler respected most about France, and went to Napoleon's tomb. And around the world, there is a "Napoleonic Code". A French legal code, that is in many places because of colonialism. But why would you want a legal code named after a warlord?

@blrbrazil1718 I think that's one reason the French are obsessed with taking credit for the American Revolutionary War. Because the American Revolution was also ideologically successful. Two beautifully written documents, Declaration of Independence and Constitution, the latter which is still in effect 237 years later. Because the American founders knew straight democracy, aka mob rule, would fail.

Germany didn't spare Britain. Hitler gave up after the British defeated the Luftwaffe.

@paulgottlieb Pearl Harbor was obviously a sneak attack. Then the US defeated Japan in a stand up fight.
