And for a reason. The capitol used to be in Philadelphia. But left the federal government at the mercy of meddling from the state government. The Constitution mandates that the capitol not be in a state for a reason.

DC is 90% Democrats. This is all about packing the Senate.

@reidfmorthel5597 Actually, it's not that Democrat if the statistics I found are correct. But some cities are overwhelmingly Democrat. Manhattan in 85% Democrat

@brienodoyle5137 I clearly explained why the capitol is intentionally not in a state. DC has federal governance at the top.

@brienodoyle5137 The Pennsylvania government shut down a meeting of the federal government once. So the capitol was mandated to be in DC.

@brienodoyle5137 Are you playing dumb? Philadelphia was the was used as the capitol (along with some other temporary locations) from 1790 to 1800 while DC was being built. DC didn't exist when the Constitution mandated it, they had to build it.

@brienodoyle5137 Congress shall have the power: To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States Article 1, section 8. Congress has ultimate authority over DC, which is intentionally NOT a state. Again, this was done to prevent a state government from meddling. An attack on the Congress at Philadelphia by a mob of angry soldiers, known as the Pennsylvania Mutiny of 1783, had emphasized the need for the government to see to its own security.

@brienodoyle5137 They have no senators or voting representatives because Congress has the ultimate authority over the governance of the Federal District. Because, again, there are political constitutional reasons that the Federal District is not a state. If it were given the autonomy of a state, it would leave the federal government vulnerable to meddling by that state, which negates the whole point of DC as the capital. cf. "an attack on the Congress at Philadelphia by a mob of angry soldiers, known as the Pennsylvania Mutiny of 1783, had emphasized the need for the government to see to its own security. "
