Some counties have heroin maintenance, where an addict is prescribed a daily dose, so they maintain the addiction without the complications of bad drugs or needles. But any non-loser would do a detox program and end the addiction.

Not all states want to legalize it. It's only legal in a few countries worldwide.

@mitchcarter442 Some countries actually use heroin, rather than the substitute such as methadone. At least the Netherlands. But people can detox. They just have to spend a few days with withdrawal sickness.

@mitchcarter442 The concept of addiction maintenance sounds stupid to me. I have a cousin, whom I haven't seen since I was a child, who ended up in a home for the disabled because she was a meth addict. It caused crippling strokes.

@mitchcarter442 You can't prevent someone from destroying themself if they're determined to. I mentioned a cousin who entered a home for the disabled in her 40s, because strokes from meth crippled her.
