  1. Also the last slaves freed weren't those in Texas, they were slaves of native American tribes. The Juneteenth bill was electoral politics. If you really wanted to commemorate the end of slavery you'd celebrate the 13th Amendment.

  5. The Juneteenth bill is stupid electoral politics. The 13th Amendment is an infinitely greater accomplishment. It takes broad political consensus to amend the Constitution. There is also the 14th and 15th. Who cares when some slavers in TX freed slaves? They fixed the Constitution so nobody can enslave anyone again. Otherwise after Lincoln's assassination they'd have slavery again.
