The implosion would have been catastrophic--a large amount of heat and energy released. So the whole craft was destroyed.

Soapy1898 Probably even stronger than that. The pressure is 400 atmospheres at that depth. I'm surprised that anyone tried to take a manned submarine to that depth. A normal military sub only goes to about 400 m deep, the Titanic is about 10x that depth.

@litleboy1191 Well, this submersible was designed by amateurs. With space flight there is a 1% chance of catastrophy and that's after tests, and with many backup systems, not a bluetooth Xbox controller. Some engineer told them that the carbon fiber degrades over time. The leader said "we have sonar detectors for cracks and deformations." But the vessel will implode when there is a defect. They didn't even hear the warning, before they died.

@buddycider3670 So? The Titan imploded at 200 atm, possibly. How is that relevant? That just makes the Titan more certainly doomed. Its destination was at 400 atm.
