The communist/fascist animosity always reminds me of culturally similar neighboring countries that always complain about one another.

@mikefay5698 "All the Allies were Hymn singing Christians." No. Most westerners are apostate christians. And in some countries, like the UK, almost nobody goes to church. But it's not even true that most US solders were "hymm singing christians". The Nazis only cared about christianity to the point that it was part of German identity.

@LLE08071635 The British Empire did the most to ban slavery and the slave trade.
2
I've only lived in Germany for one year. But I'm pretty sure they're politically correct about the Third Reich.
2
It would have been impossible to not know. In occupied and Vichi France they were loading people on freight trains. And they exploited anti-Semitic elements of some occupied countries.
2
One of the Nasa scientists who worked with Von Braun, Arthur Rudolph, was deported in 1985 over using concentration camp slave labor. More accurately, he was facing trial, so he renounced his US citizenship and moved back to Germany.
2
@HistoryHustle There's newspaper articles in 1985 about this. The could have extradicted him from Germany. Argentina was a better place for them to go, because there are politically powerful Jewish people in the US. Though they have no space program.
2
In the US political factions are exploiting these factions against Russia.

Nazi Germany wasn't efficient. They were killing talent in camps while they were losing the war with Russia. The Allies in the USA invented atomic weapons with jewish scientists who fled Germany. They did have talent nevertheless. The German V-2 was the basis of the US space program. Wernher von Braun (Sturmbannfurher) designed the Saturn V which went to the Moon.

And the Dutch never speak ill of the Germans again.
1
@HistoryHustle My dad had a cousin who was forced to plant trees and dig trenches by the Germans in Zeeland. They thought maybe the allied landing would be there, so they had to make it difficult for gliders to land.

@maartjewaterman1193 What's really dissonant is that the French are really bitter over being liberated by the Americans. They even bring up the Revolutionary War in 1776, saying we're not grateful for their help. But there're more Americans in graves in France than that.
1
@maartjewaterman1193 They must be really indoctrinated in nationalistic ideal in their schools. They have a huge sense of national pride. They have to go back to Napoleon for a victory, but he also lost in the end. But they just really have a chip on their shoulder over the Americans. The Dutch have the opposite (and normal) feeling toward the Canadians. "The French are convinced that their country is the centre of the universe and all other countries are just their satelites." They surrendered to the Wehrmacht in just 6 weeks.
1
@maartjewaterman1193 Also, their behavior in Vichy France was contemptible. It basically cowardly fascists in France joining Hitler and his Final Solution--loading people into trains.
1
@HistoryHustle It must be kind of annoying that internationally, say in the US, people confuse the Dutch and Germans. There are immigrants in PA, called the "Pennsylvania Dutch". But they're German. When they immigrated, people asked them where they're from: "Deutsch".
1
Not quite, at least today, there are people who wont stop complaining about slavery, when it's well beyond living memory.
1
I heard that nostalgia for the DDR is acceptable. Though, I'm not sure what there was to like about it. East Berlin looked nicer under the 3rd Reich, before the war destroyed it.
1
There were a lot of traitors in continental Europe. The last defenders of the Reich Chancellery were a battallion of French. So Hitler and Eva were able to enjoy a day of marriage because of French soldiers, shameful.
1
@HistoryHustle I just know the whole battle of Berlin took place for Hitler. Because everyone knew it was a lost cause at that point. The German armies were decimated, so there were Swedish and French still fighting. They still ended up in a bomb crater. But other wars don't end in surrender rather than "Kämpfe bis zum letzten Mann".
1
My understanding about the Americans (probably the same for British) is that they knew, but had no idea how bad it was, until the first camps were liberated.
1
@HistoryHustle Charlie Chaplin said he wouldn't have been able to make The Great Dictator, Hitler parody, if he knew how bad the atrocities were.
1
@HistoryHustle The thing about WW2 for Americans is that Germany and Japan harbor no grudges whatsoever because the way the US treated them after the war. The Netherlands and Poland rightfully blame Germany for it. And France blames the US for their humiliation, and is still very bitter about it.
1
Orange would ruin it, because everyone will think you're one of those pro-Ukraine virtue signaling globalists.
1
Shouldn't the Germans have been disarmed? They were a defeated enemy. The high ranking should have been arrested.
1
They waste all that money on health insurance -- just plan on calling Washington. I supposed they foresee another world war. But you can help prevent an occupation by requiring all citizens to have guns. Every house should be required to have guns.

0:17 You went to N. Korea?
1
It was undoubtable a story from many. Like Albert Speer was constantly saying that he was the conscientious "good nazi", and even made up a story about how he had a plan to poison Hitler. Because he didn't want to be executed.
