The Soviet manned lunar program failed because their super heavy lift launch vehicle N-1 blew up in all 4 test launches. And before their first failed attempt, Feb 21, 1969, the US Saturn V had already had 3 successful launches, including the manned Apollo 8 that put 3 men in orbit around the moon. They had problems with combustion instability in the first stage, a problem solved by Apollo contractors in 1967. There is so much thrust in rockets this large that combustion instability makes the engine explode, turning the rocket into a giant bomb.

@Gasprom Gate - Greek Default & Berlin They had a much smaller budget than the Americans. The Soviet Union was a huge country, but had an economy the size of Japan, and that was just military and food.

@simonm1447 Russia's economy is based on gas exporting. Now they have power over Europe, because they chose to depend on Russian gas, while sanctioning Russia. The German's laughed when Trump told them not to do this.

@simonm1447 "He was far more Russia friendly compared to Biden now." That's objectively false. He was advising Europe to not depend on Russian gas. And the Euro political establishment snickered at him. Trump killed hundreds of Russian backed mercenaries in Syria, so Putin knew he wasn't a soft shoe, like Biden. And Biden cut US petrol production by 1 mil barrels a day, causing the price of crude to triple. Biden's policies are funding the Ukraine war. Buying US gas is not politically compromising, even Persian Gulf gas, would avoid this embarrassment.

@simonm1447 The sanctions don't even hurt Russia, because they just sell their oil through a non-aligned country, India.
